Goethe Institut

The Goethe-Institut is a German nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the German language abroad and to foster international cultural cooperation between various countries and Germany.

It is named after the German poet Johann von Goethe. The Goethe-Institut offers language courses and certifies proficiency in German. Founded in 1925 as the German Academy, it is represented by 143 institutes in 78 countries around the world. The organization’s headquarters are located in Munich. It is funded by the German federal government.
